MIA

Mia is training in nosework!

We are still in the beginnings of our training, but here we are training in exteriors and vehicle searches.

You can click on the pictures to see larger versions of the pictures.

When training on vehicles, we often start with the back bumper. Mia is just now, pin-pointing the spot where the scent is hidden!!
After starting on the back bumper, you should start to move around the vehicle. Here we are finding the next hide just behind the back wheel.
Here Mia is moving about the search area on our exterior search! Sometimes a dog will move about the search area before pin-pointing a hide, and sometimes a dog will go right to a hide. Each search and each dog is different.

You may also notice that I have Mia on a rather long-line and a harness rather than a collar. We want her to be able to move about quite freely. This is a DOG directed sport.

Here Mia finds a hide right next to the building.
Hides in the exterior can also be in the open grass!! The dogs do better with the open hides than one would think.

In this picture you will notice that Gretchen, our instructor, is also in the search area. When trialing, the judge will be just one of a few people who will also be in the search area with the dog and the handler.
